Faculty
Ruey-Li Lin returned to NOCCC in 2004 as the choir's music
director and Concert Group conductor. Ms. Lin is a graduate of
Taipei Municipal Teachers College in Taiwan, where she majored in
vocal music, piano, and flute. She was a member of the Teacher's
Chorus of Taipei and conducted the Children's Choir of the Chinese
Television Company (CTV) and the Jing Hua Elementary School choir,
which won first place in the city's choir festival under her
directorship. In the United States, Ms. Lin has conducted the Hsin
Hsin Adult Choir, Yu Lin Chinese School Choir of Fountain Valley,
United Chinese Learning Center Chorus, and North Orange County
Children's Choir (NOCCC). She has served as a judge for numerous
choral competitions in Taiwan and Southern California.
In addition to conducting choirs, Ms. Lin also teaches piano and
voice, and gives solo hand chime and hand bell performances in local
libraries and churches to promote music in the community.
A native of Orange County, Stephen Pu studied music principally under the guidance of Ming-I Chen. He is an
alumnus of NOCCC, where he sang for eight years and served as
accompanist of the General Group for one year. He is a graduate of
the Certificate of Merit program from Music Teachers Association of
California (MTAC) and an active piano teacher in MTAC Hollywood
Branch. A noted singer, he has performed on many major stages,
including Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Royce Hall, and
Carnegie Hall.
In addition to his return to NOCCC as conductor of the Advanced
Group, Stephen serves as Music Director at Boys and Girls Club of
Hollywood and conductor at Christ Lutheran Church of Santa Clarita.
He is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree in Choral
Conducting at UCLA under the guidance of Professor Donald Neuen.
Ms. Wang holds her Master’s Degree in Music from Manhattan School of Music in New York. Since elementary school, she attended the choir program where she sang, was the soloist, served as the piano accompanist, and directed her class which won first place repeatedly. During her graduate study in New York, she earned the distinction of performance in the Manhattan Opera Studio and was honorably selected for participation in the Master Class under the guidance of Ms. Mignon Dunn, the world-renowned Mezzo-Soprano. An accomplished singer, Ms. Wang has performed in many operas in Taiwan and Manhattan, received first place in Solo Vocal Competition, and was the recipient of the prestigious Chi Mei Cultural Foundation’s Music Talent Award. She has taught at Tunghai University, Yang Min junior high school, Yamaha, and Royal Music School. She is an active member of MTAC and Royal British School of Music and has over 15 years of experience teaching piano and voice.
Ms. Chiang joined NOCCC in 2006 as the conductor for Junior
Group. She is a graduate of Taipei Municipal Teacher’s college in
Taiwan, where she majored in vocal music and piano. In Taiwan, she
was a music teacher at the National Experimental High School
Bilingual Department at Hsin-Chu Industrial Science Park, where she
taught general music and choral classes from grade 1 through grade
12. In addition, Ms. Chiang has been a devoted church musician both
in Taiwan and in the United States. She is a church pianist, choir
conductor and vocalist. Ms. Chiang is also a private piano teacher
and an active member of MTAC.
Ms. Chiang has a passion for teaching music. She loves children
and enjoys being around them. She considers being a church musician
and a music educator her lifelong mission.
Wendy Huang joined the faculty of NOCCC in 2009. She has been conductor and music
director of the Orange County Ladies Choir in Irvine since 2006, led the EFCI
Chinese Children Choir in Irvine for several years, and served as conductor and
director of the Overseas Chinese Choir of Hamburg (Germany), sponsored by the
Representative Office of Taiwan in Hamburg.
Ms. Huang, a soprano in the Pacific Chorale, has performed in many solo recitals,
ensemble concerts, operas, light operas, church music and oratorios in Taiwan,
Germany, Italy, South Africa and the United States. She won second place in
the Chinese Art Song Competition held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan at the age of 18.
Ms. Huang obtained her Master of Music degree (Diplom-Sängerin) from the School
of Music and Interpretative Arts in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, with a major
in Vocal Performance and a minor in Piano Performance. She is an active
member of the Music Teachers’ Association of California.
Sabrina Yen joined NOCCC as a member in 2004. She started playing piano at age four at Yamaha
Music School, subsequently studied with Betty Liu, and is currently playing with
Rebecca Wang. Sabrina is the accompanist for the show choir at Venado
Middle School. She has passed Certificate of Music level 9 and has competed in
the S.Y.M.F., CAPMT piano and ensemble auditions, MTAC Romantic competition,
and MTAC Classical competition. In her free time, Sabrina enjoys playing
violin and drums, composing music, reading, and dancing.
Sydney Shen joined NOCCC in 2007 as the piano accompanist for the Preparatory Group.
Sydney has been studying piano since age 4 from Ms. Elaine Lin.
She has won awards from MTAC Music Festivals for piano and IUSD Reflection
program for Musical Composition. Sydney has attained Certificate of Merit piano level 8.
Besides playing piano, Sydney also enjoys playing violin. She has participated
in IUSD Honor Orchestra, OCJO, and Four Seasons Orchestra. Sydney also enjoys reading,
chess, swimming, and tennis.
Gene Oetomo, a member of NOCCC's Concert Group from 2001 to 2004, has played the Er-Hu
for 7 years under Karen Han and the piano for 9 years. He is currently studying
under Ethan Dong. Gene has been the winner of many competitions, including SYMF,
Bach Festival, and the International Chinese Competition. He passed the
Certificate of Merit in piano, advanced level, with the highest score. Gene is
a student at Beckman High School.
Nicholas grew up with NOCCC, having been a member of Junior, Intermediate, and
Concert Groups. He started piano lesson at the age of four and is currently
studying with Mrs. Su-Shing Chiu. Nicholas has been awarded 1st place in the
Cypress College Piano Competition, 1st place in the Arts Club Piano Competition,
1st place at the Southwestern Youth Music Festival, Alternate winner for the
Irvine Classical Music Emerging Artists award, 2nd place at the Sonata Festival,
1st place at the California Association of Professional Music Teachers District
Piano Competition, and State Honor Audition finalist. Nicholas also
plays the cello in the All Southern Middle School Honor String Orchestra and
was Principal Cellist of the Irvine Unified School District Elementary Honor
Orchestra. He won 1st place at the Southwestern Youth Music Festival and
2nd place at the American String Teachers Association competition. In
addition to music, Nicholas likes to golf.
Jasmin Kung joined NOCCC in 2007 as the accompanist for Junior Group. She has been
studying piano with Mrs. Su-Shing Chiu since the age of five. She attended the
junior special advanced class of Irvine Yamaha Music Center in 2001
and graduated in 2005. Jasmin has won many awards for piano performance,
including the Bach Festival at the MTAC Regional Competition,
Bartok Festival State Competition, Southwestern Youth Music Festival, Sonata Festival,
and Cypress College Piano Competition. Jasmin also enjoys playing the violin and viola,
and has been a member of the All Southern California Middle School Honor Orchestra
and the Irvine Unified School District Honor Orchestra. In addition to music,
Jasmin loves to dance and paint.
Ellen Yu, a member of NOCCC's Concert Group from 2005 to 2006, has been playing piano
since the age of five and currently studies with Mrs. Su-Shing Chiu. Ellen has won
awards in numerous piano competitions, including the Emerging Artists competition,
the Bach Festival, and various MTAC branch Music Festivals. At the 2008 MTAC Annual
Convention, Ellen was one of five students chosen statewide to perform in Dr.
Lucinda Carver’s Master Class. In additional to piano, Ellen also plays violin
in the school orchestra, and has been selected to play in the Irvine All-District
and All-Southern California Honor Orchestra.
